Choosing the right paper for your custom printed notebook and binding is an important decision. As notebooks are designed for writing, we recommend avoiding gloss and matte coated papers for the internal pages. Instead, opt for uncoated paper, which absorbs ink, graphite and paint without smudging or rubbing off.
If you’d like to include photographs or other graphics, those specific pages can be printed on gloss coated paper to achieve the best visual results. We’re more than happy to guide and advise you on the most suitable paper options for your notebook and your budget.

Notebook Binding Options
While notebooks come in all shapes and sizes, the choice of binding is an important factor in terms of appearance, durability and purpose. Let’s take a look at the five most common, professional-looking binding styles. All of the following options can lay flat when opened.
Hardcover Binding
With this method, we organise the internal pages into signatures which are then printed, trimmed, sewn and glued into a hard case. The cover is typically wrapped in printed paper or another material of your choice. This binding is durable and has a high-end, professional look. You can also enhance the cover with embossed or debossed titles, soft-touch lamination or metallic foil stamping to create a luxury notebook.
Wire-O Bound
Similar to spiral binding, but using a double-loop metal wire instead of a plastic spiral. Wire-O binding is a popular choice for school, university and office notebooks due to its practicality and cost-effectiveness.
Perfect Bound
Also known as paperback or softcover binding. The internal pages are assembled into a block, which is then glued and sometimes sewn along the spine, before being attached to a wrap-around cover made from heavier art paper or lightweight card. This option offers a clean, professional look at an economical price.
Spiral Bound
A flexible and practical binding method where holes are punched or drilled down one side of the pages and then bound using a plastic coil. The coil is crimped at both ends to keep the pages secure. Spiral-bound notebooks can open completely flat and the pages can turn 360°.
Singer Sewn Binding
In this technique, the pages are folded and sewn together along the spine with thread. It’s a classic and durable option that provides a handcrafted feel.

Notebook Cover Special Finishes
You can enhance your notebook’s cover with a variety of special finishes when the cover is printed on paper, including gloss or matt lamination, varnishing, soft-touch lamination and spot UV. If the cover is made from fabric or leatherette, we can also provide debossing and metallic foil stamping.
