Just keep in mind that extensive customisation typically involves higher costs and longer turnaround times, as we need to do more pre-press work and setup. For certain projects, the added investment in customisation can be worthwhile. The choice is always yours. However, in most cases, it’s more economical, easier to mail and distribute, and just as effective to choose one of the standard sizes.
Wall Calendar Paper Options
Most wall calendars feature full-colour photography or art reproductions, so we recommend printing on gloss or matte art paper to achieve the best results. Both gloss and matte provide ideal surfaces for vibrant colour or black-and-white printing that will really make your wall calendar visuals stand out.
Gloss paper is typically the best choice for full-colour photographic calendars, while calendars with a more understated design may benefit from matte paper.
Matte paper still delivers excellent image reproduction while making the text easier to read.
If you’d like your recipients to write on the calendar, we recommend using uncoated paper stock. Uncoated stock allows users to write, annotate, and make notes easily using pencils, pens, or markers. So if your clients need to write on the calendar, uncoated paper is the most suitable option.
A common solution is to alternate gloss-coated art paper with uncoated offset paper—allowing high-quality image reproduction on one page and a writeable surface on the other. These are typically bound so the image hangs above and the writeable page—with the day, week, or month layout—hangs below. Due to the level of customisation involved in this arrangement, a print quantity of over 50,000 units is recommended to keep costs economical.
Special Finishes, Lamination, and Foil Stamping
Not every calendar includes a cover sheet—but most do. And with good reason: your calendar’s cover is the first thing a client or potential customer sees, so it needs to make a strong and lasting impression.

Binding Options for Custom Wall Calendars
You can choose from two popular and effective binding options to customise your calendar to suit your specific needs: saddle stitch and Wire-O binding. Let’s take a closer look at each.
Saddle Stitch Binding
If your calendar has 24 internal pages plus 4 cover pages, saddle stitching is a popular and economical binding method that may suit your requirements. Saddle stitching secures the pages and cover together using specialised staples. It’s an ideal option for wall-hanging calendars, and we can add a drilled hole—punched evenly through all pages—to make it easy to hang in the office, workshop, or at home.
Wire-O Binding
Wire-O binding uses a technique known as “punch-and-bind”. We punch or drill evenly spaced holes along one edge of the calendar’s pages, then insert a flexible wire—formed into a double loop of circular hoops—through the holes. The wire binding holds the pages securely while allowing them to turn freely, even through 360°, and lie completely flat. We can laminate the pages to enhance durability and water resistance. For wall-hanging calendars, we can include a special loop integrated into the wire for easy display.

Custom Wall Calendar Design and Artwork Tips
Whether you’re preparing the artwork yourself or working with a professional artist or graphic designer, it’s important to understand how to set up both artwork and text correctly for printing. You’ll need to account for bleed zones, safety margins, trim lines, and borders, and ensure the resolution and colour space are correct.
Export your files as vector-based PDFs for the best results. We recommend using Adobe Illustrator or Adobe InDesign to create your wall calendar design. These programs also allow you to convert your colour space from RGB to CMYK, which is essential for offset printing.
If you're unable to supply vector files—for example, if you're exporting raster images from Photoshop—please ensure the resolution is at least 300 dpi. With vector files, resolution isn't an issue, but for raster images, high definition is vital to avoid blurring or pixelation when scaling.
Add a 3 mm bleed around all pages. The bleed is an extended area beyond the final page size that ensures your artwork reaches the edge after trimming. During production, we'll trim your pages to the final dimensions of your chosen calendar format. Anything in the bleed area will be cut off. We recommend marking the bleed zone with red lines.
Inside the trim line, be sure to keep essential design elements at least 10 mm away to avoid them being cut off or appearing too close to the edge. This inner zone is often referred to as the "safety margin".
If your calendar is Wire-O bound, please leave an additional 15 mm margin on the side to be bound, to allow for hole punching and proper alignment.
